Medal of Honor: European Assault review

2. One of the best representatives of World War II games on consoles is undoubtedly the Medal of Honor series. Although the series, which first came out with Frontline for the next generation of consoles, could not give exactly what was expected, it still made us happy. Then with Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, the hugely disappointing series winks back to its old days with its new game, ‘European Assault,’ proving that Medal of Honor isn’t dead.

We know that the Americans made a lot of propaganda films to vilify, even destroy, Soviet Russia and the Nazis. It was reflected in the games. Although Americans have been right to disparage these states with a bad reputation in history, it’s really frustrating that they do it to praise themselves and take on the role of ‘defender of the good.’ But there is a bit of a difference this time in European Assault; there are also episodes in which, as an American soldier, we fought with Soviet forces against the Nazis. In addition, we are fighting for the British in places like Italy, Germany and North Africa. From the point of view of gameplay, we are not alone this time, we usually have a few NPCs with us. Maybe the biggest reason for this is that we can’t play Rambo like we used to (or the effect of games like Brothers in Arms?).

In the old games of the series, we alone overcame all the enemies. Although the old games were not so easy, we could still kill dozens of soldiers alone. In our new game, you also need soldiers who are with you to do these things. If you attempt to dive alone among an enemy community of 3–4 people, believe me (if there is no great chance), you will end up dead. So now you have to be more insidious. Sometimes you have to order your team and tell them to attack the enemy, while you can support your team with a remote sniper.
The hottest of the action
Of course, the game is full of hot action scenes. There are places where we need to dive between our automatic rifle and the enemies. Around here, we have to be fast to use our health packages, because our health is falling very quickly. If we can’t use the health package, we can continue the game where we left off with the Revive feature, which allows us to resurrect. I have to say, I don’t like this Revive feature very much. It’s not good that they put such an unreal feature (Revive) in the game, while we’re only allowed to carry two weapons with us to increase realism in the game. The opposite aspect of this feature is that if we died with 3–4 soldiers next to us, we will be attacked again as soon as we stand up. It would be much better if they put the Quicksave system in place of this feature. OK, the Quicksave feature takes up a lot of space on the memory card, and companies don’t put this feature in games, but they should have put this feature on the Xbox that has a hard drive. Because of this, Rockstar put the quicksave feature in the Xbox version of Max Payne, but it was skipped in the PS2 version. I think EA could have made such an application.

In the game, there are two forms of using health; we can stock Green Packages (Limited Edition) and we have to use red packages immediately (as soon as we get on it, our yesilty level rises.). Health packages have a very important place in the game and we are allowed to take a maximum of 10 with us; we can also carry the same number of grenades with us. It may seem a lot, but believe me, we need it very, very badly. In addition, since we can only take two weapons with us, it is difficult for us to defend ourselves, so the number of bombs and health packages becomes more necessary in a way (of course, we need to collect 10 health packages around, at the beginning of the game, we are given a limited number of Health and bomb packages.).

The game features a wide variety of weapons. Among them various machine guns, 2. There are Shotgun, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles and Bazooka, a weapon we are not used to seeing in World War II games, but we can only carry two of them with us. You may not like this limitation, as it is unusual at first, but you don’t complain much later because it is a realistic feature. Of course, you can mutter because the game is a little difficult as I said, the limitation of weapons is good, but sometimes you need both a sniper rifle and a bazooka. Especially to blow up tanks (we encounter this tank explosion event too much in the game, I don’t understand why?) bazooka is our indispensable weapon. Without bazooka, we can detonate tanks with grenades (at least 4–5 grenades). And it’s ridiculous to use a bazooka against soldiers, because it’s our only weapon to neutralize tanks. For that reason, I recommend using grenades against soldiers and Bazooka against tanks. Rifles such as Sniper can be used from a long distance against heavy machine gun enemies, you should avoid close contact with your machine gun enemies as much as possible. Although your machine guns are very effective on enemies, their weapons are also very effective on you. From this point of view, I would say that the Medal of Honor was a little influenced by Call of Duty.

Enemies don’t die after dozens of shots, like in Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, but with one or two bullets. Only high-ranking people like generals are very durable, and they almost die with grenades. In addition, we can also say that boss battles are added to the game. Although it seems nice to add these bosses, it reduces the level of realism of the game a lot. It’s absurd that there’s a person who dies with a grenade, no matter what. I think it would be better if they made such bosses smarter and more flexible, making them harder to hit.

If the Multiplayer feature also offers a different taste on the split screen, we can easily say that it is far behind the single-player mode (especially on the PS2), considering that the graphical details fall quite low.
Ea’s European release is successful!
Medal of Honor is a really fun game. EA has added brand new features to the game, making the deteriorating image of the series interesting again. In this way, we should celebrate them. They also did a good job with graphics, sound and playability. Of course, after seeing great graphics games such as Half Life 2, Halo 2 and Metroid Prime 2, we can say that Medal of Honor’s graphics are not just annoying. Environmental modeling is pleasing to the eye, especially environmental designs such as trees. Character modeling is not bad; explosion and lighting effects are also good. The vocalizations are not as bad as the graphics, but we can’t say that they are great. And the controls are more than that, because the controls of the game are very successful. It’s really nice to see a game with such successful playability after those disgusting controls in Rising Sun.

As a result, we can say that Electronic Arts ‘ Los Angeles studios are doing a good job, because European Assault is quite successful, although it has some minor shortcomings. For this reason, Mohsni can participate in European extraction without thinking about what happened in the Rising Sun.
